We've all unintentionally sent an email (or a few) that read as hostile & short. Properly communicating with co-workers, bosses & bar owners can often feel overwhelming, intimidating, or impossible to accomplish. In this class, we will discuss how to effectively use communication tools from apps & emails to interpersonal at-work communications to help you become a better employee & coworker. We will explore healthier routines for communication management, proper expectations for work communication, and how to set healthy rituals for keeping up to date with work while maintaining a better work-life-balance.

At their very core, spirits are agricultural products. They are made from the same wheat, corn, and plants that we eat at our dinner tables, and we ingest them, the same as we do food. This session explores how producers and bar operators approach the issue of farming and sourcing through the lens of agriculture and what role spirits and cocktails play in the food system.

Waste is a fact of life for almost every element of our day to day. Getting creative helps offset this impact but eventually all things must come to an end.

Out of sight, out of mind has meant one of the most undiscussed elements of sustainability is what happens to our waste. How is it treated? How, if and when is it used again? These are the key questions we'll be focusing on here. As we look towards cities with the most efficient & effective waste management systems from around the world, the hope is to offer a set of clear questions all can take back to their bars and dive deeper into this topic.

In this class we review what we've covered in the past and build on it to find new tools to make our spreadsheets easier for colleagues to decipher, better methods to automate recurring tasks, and an understanding of how to fix things when stuff "just ain't right".

For Spreadsheets 2: Electric Boogaloo, we will be skipping over some basic concepts in order to maximize the time we have for more advanced (and honestly, more helpful!) topics. We've put up a few demonstration videos of these basics online for your review ahead of Monday's seminar.

Bystander intervention plays a key role in any comprehensive strategy to permanently reduce rates of sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment, bullying, and other forms of interpersonal violence and empowers all members of a given community to intersect with this issue as part of the solution. Green Dot workshops are focused on equipping bartenders, bar staff, managers, and bar owners to (1) respond when they notice behaviors that could lead to or constitute sexual assault and harassment in their bars, and (2) engage in behaviors that establish a climate of dignity and respect.
THIS SESSION IS MANDATORY FOR BARTENDING & HOSPITALITY AND BAR OWNERSHIP STUDENTS THAT DO NOT HAVE A GREEN DOT CERTIFICATE.
